Rodgers not keen to loan out Hamza

- By SEAN MCCORMICK Newcastle United writer

LEICESTER City boss Brendan Rodgers insists the Foxes are not ‘overly keen’ on loaning out Newcastle United target Hamza Choudhury.

However, he admits they will listen to permanent offers for the former England under-21 international midfielder.

Choudhury has found himself out of favour at the King Power Stadium this term, having fallen behind Youri Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi, Nampalys Mendy and Dennis Praet in the midfield pecking order.

Newcastle are in the market for a new schemer this month and have been offered Choudhury by his agent. The Magpies are in the market for loan players with both of their Premier League loan slots vacant.

West Brom and Southampton are also thought to be interested in the 23-year-old and Leicester have received loan bids from two unnamed clubs.

However, although the player is keen on a loan move, Rodgers insists Leicester will only entertain offers which will lead to Choudhury’s permanent departure from the club.

He said: “It is one where at the stage Hamza is at in his career he has played enough games, so it is something where a loan deal is not an overly attractive one right now.

“If Hamza does go out it may be to get games. He wants to play, which is natural.

“He has players ahead of him. Wilf Ndidi’s ahead of him as a defensive midfield player, Papy Mendy is ahead of him.

“It just brings him down the squad and makes his chances of playing in this season half of the season limited.

“It is just something we are not in a big rush to do but because of the enquiries over a loan I just wanted to make it clear he is not really a player we are overly keen on loaning.

“If someone is looking to buy him, or sees his qualities to buy then that is a different matter.

“We will see what January brings on that front.”
