‘Difficult’ for United to buy in January

- MUTO HENRI SAIVET MARK GILLESPIE ACHRAF LAZAAR

NEWCASTLE United boss Steve Bruce admitted it will be difficult for the Magpies to do business in the current January transfer window.

The Magpies’ head coach has revealed the club is “haemorrhaging money” in the absence of matchday revenue and stressed any arrivals this month will be from the loan market.

Contract renewals for the likes of Ciaran Clark, Dwight Gayle, and Fabian Schar are likely to be a more pressing priority in the coming weeks, with deals for a number of first–team players due to expire in the summer.

Rolando Aarons has already departed on a permanent deal for Huddersfield Town, while the Magpies have handed a contract to former Sunderland prospect Jay Turner–Cooke – son of ex–Black Cat player and kitman John Cooke.

The ongoing ramifications of the Covid–19 pandemic mean it is likely to be a quiet transfer window for all Premier League clubs.

According to Transfermarkt, Allan Saint–Maximin, Callum Wilson, Isaac Hayden and Karl Darlow are among the handful of players who have seen their transfer values rise since the summer.

In contrast, a number of fringe stars and first–teamers with expiring deals have seen their values fall in recent months.

Here is a look at the transfer value of each Newcastle United player and how they have changed from their listed values last August:
