Terrible service is leaving striker ‘stranded’, says Supermac

-

THE constant lack of service at Newcastle United means summer signing Callum Wilson must be ‘the most frustrated man in football’. That’s the view of Magpies legend Supermac, who has slammed the tactics which has left the ‘excellent’ former Bournemouth striker isolated for much of the season so far.

Wilson has made an excellent start to life at St James’ Park, netting eight times in his first 16 appearances in black-and-white.

However, Steve Bruce’s side still struggle to fashion opportunities to make the most of their in-form England international.

Chronicle columnist Supermac admits he feels sorry for the 28-year-old so far, who has been left ‘stranded’ during many of his recent matches.

The former United striker has slammed the long-ball tactics which do not play to Wilson’s strengths, and has labelled Tuesday night’s trip to basement side Sheffield United as a relegation “six pointer”.

Supermac told the Sun: “He must be the most frustrated man in football.

“The service he gets, at times, is zero and he must stand there feeling like a spare p**** at a wedding.

“A goalscorer has this hunger gnawing away at them because they want to get on the ball and get an attack moving but that’s rarely happening.

“The fact he’s even got eight goals is amazing – and that’s two more than the highest scorer of last season, Jonjo Shelvey.

“I would ask Steve Bruce: ‘Why have you brought him here in the first place? You are using and abusing the fella’.”
