POLICE are still probing the death of young girl Ella Henderson who was killed by a falling tree.

The six-year-old died after being hit by the tree at Gosforth Park First School, in Newcastle.

Ella was taken to hospital following the incident, which happened on the afternoon of Friday September 25.

But nothing could be done to save her life and she died at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary the following morning. Almost six months on from the tragedy, detectives from Northumbria Police are still investigating whether any criminal offences were committed in connection with Ella’s death.

A spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing to determine whether any criminal offences have been committed.”

In the hours after losing her precious girl Ella’s heartbroken mum, Vikki, set up an online fundraising page to support the Great North Air Ambulance Service, who flew to Ella’s aid.

More than £40,000 was donated in just two days. The family also issued a statement paying tribute to Ella, and thanking all those who tried to help.

They said: “Ella is our beautiful baby girl now and always. We want to say a heartfelt thank you to the teachers, emergency services and the staff at the RVI who did everything they could to help her. We are truly humbled by all the support and donations, even from people we have never met before.

“She was so brave and so strong, she brought so much joy to us, her big sister Abi, her family, her besties and all who she met.

“We feel incredibly blessed to have had her in our lives. We had the perfect family and she will live on in our hearts.”

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is also looking into Ella’s death.

A HSE spokesman said: “HSE is continuing to work alongside Northumbria Police, who are leading on the investigation into this incident.”
