Jobs on the way if plans agreed

-

DOZENS of new jobs could be coming to North Tyneside as plans for a new industrial scheme have been lodged with the council.

Helio Pact Limited have asked for permission to build 14 industrial units on vacant land to the west of Alder Road on West Chirton Industrial Estate, North Shields.

If the plans are given the go-ahead each unit would be the between 90-120 square metres, giving a total build area of 1,530 square metres.

It is not yet known what these new units will be used for, however the applicant has estimated that they could create around 42 new full-time jobs.

A document lodged with the council stressed that these jobs would be created by the users of the proposed units and not by the Hong Kongbased applicant.

It said: “Employment as a result of the proposal being implemented will be by the occupational users of the new units.

“As denoted on the planning application this will be for approximately 42 full time (or equivalent) workers.

Please note this will not be by direct employment by the applicant, and the estimated total number is approximate only.”

A previous application from the developer to put up seven units on the site was approved by the authority in 2019.

At the time authority planning officers recommended approval for the scheme saying that the site was already earmarked for employment use in the borough’s local plan.

No recommendations have yet been made for the updated plans and the authority is expected to decide them in May.
