Lout’s vile racist tirade after arrest

A LOUT shouted vile racist abuse at a police officer after he was arrested outside a McDonald’s restaurant.

Anthony Peacock was being detained in custody when he began his vile tirade, which included a volley of four-letter profanities.

A court heard that the 31-year-old even continued the racist remarks while he was being held in a cell at a police station.

But Peacock’s shocking outburst proved expensive after he was charged and appeared before magistrates in North Tyneside to plead guilty to a racially aggravated public order offence. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £100 compensation.

Prosecutor, Iain Jordan, said Peacock, of Blackhill Avenue, in Hadrian Park, Wallsend, was arrested for an unrelated matter outside McDonald’s on July 21 last year.

“Once in the police station, the defendant was booked into custody,” Mr Jordan continued.

“The defendant displayed behaviour and language towards the detention officer, which caused him to be alarmed, harassed and distressed. The defendant displayed, at that time, racial aggravation in his comments.”

The court heard that, on one occasion, Peacock looked directly at the officer and made a string of racial slurs.

Mr Jordan added: “The defendant also made references to Raoul Moat and PC Rathband. He then shouted at the officer.”

In a statement, the detention officer said: “I believe that Anthony Peacock said this to me because I’m a person of mixed-race origin.”

Magistrates were told that Peacock had a number of convictions on his record and had previously been jailed for assaulting a police officer.

Mark Harrison, mitigating, said Peacock had immediately pleaded guilty as he was “extremely remorseful”.

He added: “Mr Peacock is rightly and appropriately appalled by the language he used. He cannot remember what was said because he had mixed prescription medication for his mental health with alcohol.”
