CHERYL has revealed she ‘lost it’ and burst into tears as Sarah Harding gave her a heartbreaking update on her cancer battle during a FaceTime call.

Former Girls Aloud star Sarah broke the news that she was battling cancer when, after a lengthy hiatus, she returned to social media last summer to write: “There’s no easy way to say this and actually it doesn’t even feel real writing this, but here goes.

“Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body.” Before Christmas, Sarah, 39, returned to Instagram to say she was “fighting hard” and also reveal that she had penned an autobiography.

Ahead of its release, Sarah has admitted Christmas 2020 was “probably her last” after her cancer spread to her spine.

Sarah’s book is currently being serialised in The Times and Geordie star Cheryl has revealed to the publication that she struggled to keep her emotions in check when Sarah shared the “terrible news” with her.

She said: “Mostly, I try to keep my own emotions in check, but on one FaceTime call with her the other day, I couldn’t hold it in.

“She relayed some terrible news, and I lost it and started crying.”

Cheryl, 37, added that she tried to turn the phone away so Sarah couldn’t see her cry, adding: “The mad thing is, it ended up with Sarah comforting me.”

Previewing the release of her book in an Instagram post, Sarah wrote: “In between treatments and hospital visits I’ve managed to finish my book! I’m so excited for it to come out.

“I can’t rewrite history; all I can do is be honest and wear my heart on my sleeve. It’s really the only way I know. I want to show people the real me. Or perhaps remind them.

“Because, somewhere – amongst the nightclubs, the frocks and hairdos, the big chart hits, and the glamour of being a pop star – the other Sarah Harding got utterly lost. She’s the one who’s been forgotten. And all I want is for you to hear her out.”
