Turning backs on hardworking nurses

-

A Covid crack in the system is the 1% pittance of a pay rise for nurses, whose selfless dedication to duty, and sheer courage throughout this perilous pandemic has been exemplary.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak were quick to thank all the wonderful workers, and clap on their doorways each week with great

gusto but unbelievably have now turned their back on them.

Boris mustn’t be able to recall his earlier personal coronavirus crisis, when without intensive medical attention in hospital he may not have been residing in number 10 today.

I feel a nationwide fund should be launched for ALL NHS workers and fairly distributed when the pandemic is over.

Meanwhile Sir Tom Moore was circumnavigating his garden while supportive citizens were digging deep and contributing an incredible £30m for the NHS. (He later received 140,000 cards to mark his 100th birthday!)

Now the dubious test and trace system is to receive a further boost of £15bn, and in two years will have cost £37bn. Hopefully it may then disappear without trace!

Despite Health Secretary Matt Hancock celebrating the breakthrough of the superb vaccine from the top of Big Ben, test and trace doesn’t even merit even a slow hand clap!

Finally, on a lighthearted note, did you hear about Geordie fiddling in his car and saying: “My Satnav’s playing up – it won’t load Boris’s road map!”

Let’s hope all scholars soon find their way.
