Having to play without fans just ‘weird,’ admits defender Clark

CIARAN Clark says Newcastle United players have found life “weird” playing behind closed doors in the last year.

The defender claims the Magpies cannot wait until the end of the season when two games should see supporters back in the stands.

However, the Republic of Ireland international is confident Newcastle will get out of trouble at the bottom of the Premier League - but knows results must improve.

Speaking about a season without fans, Clark said: “It has been weird but we have had to adapt to it as best we can.

“Games-wise we are on a good little run performance-wise. The results have not been there but we are hoping to pick that up over the next few weeks.

“We will try to kick on and get a few more points on the board.”

Fans could be back for Newcastle’s game against either Manchester City or Sheffield United and the final day against Fulham.

Clark reflected: “Initially it was probably a bit weird with no fans.

“It was a bit crazy really with no atmosphere. The whole thing, turning up at the ground and showing our passports, temperature checks - it was all different to what we are used to.

“Itis something we have adapted to but everybody is looking forward to the day when fans will be allowed back and things are getting back to normal.”

“They are always there to roar us on and I feel they play a big part.”

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters revealed on Friday the league is in talks with the Government to allow up to10,000 fans back into grounds for the final two rounds of matches.
