End-of-season cup plans nixed while sponsors extend league deal

-

THE Ebac Northern League will not go ahead with a proposed end-ofseason cup competition.

The league’s 40 member clubs were asked to state their intention over taking part in the cup last month and there was interest from several clubs across both divisions.

However, with uncertainty still surrounding the return of supporters to grounds around the region, the league’s management committee have decided against proceeding with the competition after Easter.

League chairman Glenn Youngman

NON-LEAGUE

said: “I know people will be disappointed but there is too much uncertainty for us to proceed.

“It’s better to make a decision now so that everyone knows what the situation is as early as possible and so that clubs can start planning for the future.”

There was positive news for the league as Ebac confirmed that they will continue their sponsorship of the league into a 10th season.

“We are very grateful to John Elliott and the team at Ebac for their long-standing support of the league,” said Youngman.

“The sponsorship means that we can run such a successful league, helping clubs to run, develop and grow. The sponsorship is particularly welcome in such challenging times for football.”

Five clubs still have games to play as Shildon, Seaham Red Star, West Auckland Town and Hebburn all in FA Vase action next month.

Hebburn will also have one eye on last year’s final against Northern League rivals Consett, which is set to take place on May 3 at Wembley.
