A BRAVE victim of a rapist has spoken of how she feared she would die at the hands of her attacker during a harrowing ordeal which will haunt her forever.

Predator Mark Newton has been jailed for more than 14 years after the brute subjected two women to sex attacks and physical violence.

One of his victims - who has life-long anonymity - has opened up on the devastating consequences she faces as a result of her traumatic experience.

Recalling the horrific attack, she said: “He grabbed a kitchen knife and walked up to me and said ‘right, are you ready to die today?.’

“He dragged me upstairs and took me into a bedroom.

“He was telling me how disgusting I was and how he was going to kill me. He threw me over the bed.

“He then told me to take my pants off, which I said no to. So he then ripped them off.

“I was fearing for my life. I was terrified. There was a chance he could kill me.”

Newcastle Crown Court heard Newton threatened the victim with a knife before raping her, saying, “I am going to make sure this f ****** hurts.” During the rape he asked her, “Is it hurting yet?”

She added: “I felt so trapped. I could not escape.

“It lasted a couple of minutes and he moved away and just looked at me and said ‘pull your pants up, look at the state of you. You are disgusting.’”

The courageous victim continues to endure flashbacks from the terrifying ordeal and is taking medication and attending therapy sessions.

She says she feels nothing but hatred towards the predator responsible for destroying her life.

She added: “I am on high alert all of the time.

“When I do manage to sleep I have night terrors.

“Certain smells such as his aftershave I can go into meltdown with because I think he is behind me.

“I think about what happened every day.

“It is something which will never go away and I have to just live with it.

“He has destroyed me and it has ripped through my family like cancer.”

Newton, of South View Gardens, Annfield Plain, has been locked up for

Mark Newton

more than a decade after a judge said he “posed a high risk of causing serious harm to women.”

The 29-year-old also threatened to cut another woman’s vagina while holding her by the throat, armed with a machete.

The court heard he also sat on the other victim, pulled her eye open and threatened to blind her with a cigarette before putting it near her eye.

The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of rape and two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm against one woman.

He also admitted controlling and coercive behaviour, assault by penetration and threats to kill against another.

Newton was sentenced to 14 years and three months behind bars, with an extended licence period of five years, at a hearing on March 27.

However, his rape victim says there is no sentence long enough to serve justice for his despicable crimes.

She went on: “It was relief to see him put behind bars - the fact someone had seen through him and believed what a danger he is.”

The victim vowed she was never going to tell anyone about the sexual attack but six months later she plucked up the courage to tell the police - and she is urging other victims to come forward to ensure justice is served.

She said: “It is never too late to speak out. No one deserves to have go to through what I went through.”
