Max fires Power-ful warning to the Cats
SUNDERLAND skipper Max Power is keen to ensure his side keeps its feet on their ground ahead of the promotion run in.
The win over Oxford stretches the Black Cats’ unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions.
Their impressive vein of form has propelled them into the automatic promotion picture and they head to Peterborough this afternoon looking to gain an advantage in the race for promotion.
Power said: “The fans should be excited, there should be an excitement.
“We are on a run and now we are playing good football.
“I have been at the other end of the table and I know what I would rather be playing for.
“As captain, I will be trying to keep the dressing room levelheaded.
“We cannot control outside noise but it is human nature to get excited.
“We are on the run-in and playing good football and what pleased me most against Oxford was coming from behind.
“You can draw those sort of games quite easily or even lose them.
“That was a good side we played against, so we put that one to bed and move on.”
Many believe the winner of today’s game will become favourites for the title, with Posh just two points above the Black Cats in second.
Sunderland remain three points off the summit of League One but have games in hand on both sides above them – Hull City is the other – with both of them still to play.
Power added: “I can understand why people would think that.
“I am not going to sugarcoat it but
I don’t feel as if it is any bigger game than what we have in the run-in.
“We have nine real good games to look forward to.
“We will certainly be going to Peterborough to try and win the game and hopefully we put in a performance to go and do that.
“It does not need heightening, it is two good teams in the division.
“I was injured when we played
Peterborough earlier in the season and I watched from the stand and they have some really good players.
“Jonson Clarke-Harris and Charlie Wyke have been the two main men in the division this season so I am sure there will be spotlight on that.
“We have a strong squad and everyone has to bring something to the table now and embrace this run-in.”
