Dubravka keeping faith despite defeat

MARTIN Dubravka says Newcastle United players are hardly climbing the walls with anxiety after their horror start to the season continued at Arsenal.

The Slovakia international made his return at the Emirates Stadium but could not stop the Magpies sliding to defeat number seven of the campaign as the Gunners triumphed 2-0.

Newcastle are now one of just six clubs to have failed to win a game in their first 13 games - but Dubravka is positive about the situation.

The Toon goalkeeper said: “We still have a lot of games to play.

“I don’t think anybody in the dressing room thinks we are worried. Yes, it is not the best start for us, we know that.

“We do need to work on certain situations and plans.

“We have to stick together because that is the only way to deal with this situation.

“Mentally it is not easy but the good thing is the next game is in two days so we can show the attitude and win the games.”

Dubravka pulled off some remarkable saves on a day in which he faced 24 goal attempts.

He added: “It is disappointing because I think we have been solid during the game.

“The top sides are going to create of good chances but I think we were trying to stop them and be dangerous up front.

“It is not always easy to play against a top side and they showed their quality.”

Dubravka could not even be critical of his defence after goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli eventually beat him.

He went on: “I would not even say we made a mistake - it just showed they had individual quality.

“There were loads of positives in this game so we have to take those.”
