Langstaff is linked with Hatters move

-

GATESHEAD’S top scorer Macaulay Langstaff has been linked with a five-figure move to National League big guns Stockport County.

The 13-goal striker trained last week but did not take part in the Heed’s top-three Conference North showdown with Brackley Town.

Replacement Paul Blackett scored Gateshead’s clinching goal in a 2-0 win over the leaders on Tyneside.

It now remains to be seen whether Langstaff takes part in the festive fixtures with Blyth Spartans due at the International Stadium on Boxing Day.

Langstaff’s injury time winner at Altrincham in the FA Cup was a strike worth £82,000 to Gateshead and earned a televised home second round tie against Charlton.

Langstaff has been deadly in front of goal for a free-scoring Gateshead - but missed the Heed’s two best chances against the Addicks. The 24-year-old began his senior career on his native Teesside with Billingham Synthonia before joining Gateshead in 2017 and later moving to York City.

His second spell on Tyneside has been a productive one for the Boro graduate, who has already shared 24 goals with strike partner Cedwyn Scott this season.

Carl Magnay, meanwhile, has been training with Gateshead after he was shown the door at National League North rivals Spennymoor Town.

Magnay was one of three Moors men to see red at Gloucester City following a fracas, the defender having just returned from suspension.

The 32-year-old played for Gateshead in their Conference play-off final defeat against Cambridge United at Wembley in 2014.

He was then surprisingly released by manager Gary Mills and went on to star for both Grimsby Town and Hartlepool United before joining Spennymoor.

Gateshead have yet to announce whether Luke Williams and Matty Jacob’s half-season deals will be extended into the new year.

Left-back Jacob has impressed while on loan from Championship outfit Hull City with attacker Williams now fit after breaking his foot earlier in the campaign.

Adam Campbell, meanwhile, will be suspended for Sunday’s derby against Blyth but captain Greg Olley will return from suspension against Terry Mitchell’s strugglers.
