- By DANNY BLOOMER Reporter

NEWCASTLE fans called the signing of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid a “real statement of intent”.

The England international has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal at St James’ Park and marks the new owners’ first foray into the transfer market.

Here is how Newcastle fans have been reacting to the news:

@SDIXON1902: “England international right back, champion of Spain. As a first signing goes, doesn’t get much better. Absolute bargain too! Up the Saudi Mags.”

@Pauldonny1983: “Now let’s get more through that door. This is what a 12m signing does to the fans and a set of new owners. Remember we don’t expect to win the league, we just want a team that tries and fights!”

@WesRobson: “Yes, what a signing this lad will be for us, class player and someone who can put a ball in, fantastic start to the window. Wow, this isn’t how windows go for us, thank you @ NUFC, who is next?”

@GregNUST: “Great start in the transfer market by our new owners. Ambitious, acted fast and decisively. Howay United.”

@Liam_Smithh: “What a signing this, what a coup! Unbelievable business, a real statement of intent. Get in, let’s this be the building blocks that this club rises from.”

@scottgoodacre: “Signing an experienced current England international days into the window is a pretty big change from the previous regime. It’s a nice feeling to think that this should be the start rather than it being our only activity.”

@Dan96__: “Incredible signing this, especially with our position in the table. Fair play to Trippier as well seeing the potential and buying into a project.”

@spdy1903: “This is the start of something very special! Great signing.”

@AngelNUFC: “Welcome to the club! Massive upgrade, Wilson’s going to have balls coming at him from all angles now. Hope we can get a few more in before Watford.”
