KIERAN Trippier says he did not think twice about leaving Atletico Madrid and the Champions League for Newcastle United and a relegation battle.

The Bury-born lad arrives as the first signing of an era on Tyneside after his £12m switch from the La Liga club this week and is excited about the challenge ahead.

Trippier had been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea, but says he did not hesitate when the chance to sign for the Magpies came his way.

Trippier, who put in an impressive display at his first Press conference, said at his unveiling: “I made it clear a few months back if I had the opportunity to come back to the Premier League I’d love to do so.

Trippier added: “It was very important as he is a great manager.
