EMOTIONAL tributes have been paid after a little North East girl tragically died at the age of eight.

Lyla Ives, from Cramlington, passed away suddenly on January 6, leaving her family and loved ones devastated.

But in the days since her death, tributes have poured in, describing her has a “one-of-a-kind” youngster who loved playing with her friends and making TikTok videos.

Close friend of the family Martin Bell, 31, said that Lyla was a “bubbly” young girl who had plenty of friends and loved spending her time watching YouTube.

Martin, who also lives in Cramlington, said Lyla was rushed to hospital earlier this month before passing away suddenly.

He added that tests are still under way, but it is understood Lyla may have died from a possible “medical episode.”

Martin, who is supporting Lyla’s parents, Stuart and Courtney, has also set up a JustGiving page in the hope of raising £3,000, which will go towards funeral costs and helping Lyla’s family. So far, over £2,700 has been raised. A note on the page says: “Last week we had the absolutely devastating news that we have lost our beautiful Lyla. “It’s impossible to put into words the pain and sadness everyone is feeling, at losing her so suddenly and at such a young age. Lyla was such a bright, amazing and funny girl. She touched the hearts of everyone who met her.

“She was adored by family, friends, teachers and schoolmates. She has left a void that will never be filled and broken the hearts of us all. “We can never bring her back and by God I wish there was a way we could, but by helping out with this fundraiser I’m hoping we can at least take away part of the financial burden a funeral brings and make a fitting memorial to her.

“It’s the very least she deserves.” A moving tribute was also shared by Cramlington Village Primary School, where Lyla was a popular pupil in Year 4.

“Lyla was kind, compassionate, considerate and popular in the local community as she played out with friends across lots of year groups”, it said.

“She was happy-go-lucky, always liked to do the right thing and has left an indelible print on our hearts.”

The school added: “At CVPS we feel the school is an extended family to us all and we are so devastated to lose one of our own.”
