Stunning Pilgrims is ‘best moment’ of Lynch’s career

-

MORPETH Town manager Craig Lynch described his side’s fourthround win against National League North club Boston United as “the best moment of his career.”

The Highwaymen came through an epic seven-goal tie against a Boston side that are seen as genuine play-off contenders in non-league’s second tier.

After going into half-time looking to overturn a 3-2 deficit with Jack Foalle and Liam Henderson finding the net, Lynch’s side produced a stunning second-half display.

Liam Noble equalised from the penalty spot on 50 minutes and Foalle completed the comeback with his second 20 minutes later.

The win extends Morpeth’s history-making run and they now prepare to feature in the last 16 for the very first time.

“It was absolutely outstanding, a proper cup tie,” said Lynch. “They are seventh in the National League North so we knew what we were facing.

“There’s not enough words to describe how I am feeling. Taking over at Seaham Red Star at a young age was a great learning curve, and this is a great club to be involved in.

“We have a quality squad and I think we have seen the potential here as a club today. It’s the best moment of my career.”

All eyes now turn towards today’s fifth-round draw as Morpeth look to extend their history-making run.

The likes of Notts County and Wrexham are all potential opponents for Lynch’s side – but the Highwaymen boss said he doesn’t mind who they are paired with, as long as they get a home tie.

“No club would relish coming up here,” he said. “People come to Morpeth for a day out, and the ambience at the ground is nice – but in football, you need a bit of aggression and passion from the stands.

“That’s what we had and why we are doing so well at the moment.

“We don’t mind who we get but we would love to get another fantastic team up here in the last 16.”

Spennymoor Town will joined Morpeth in today’s draw after they survived a scare against Southern League Division One South club Plymouth Parkway.

The visitors threatened to pull off a shock when Luke Bath fired them in front on the half-hour mark at Brewery Field.

That lead remained in place until the final five minutes of the game as Luke Spokes, Rob Ramshaw and Glen Taylor all found the net to send the Moors through to the last 16.
