Loan star Jacob extends his stay with Tynesiders
GATESHEAD have boosted their title bid by extending Hull City defender Matty Jacob’s loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old left-back has had his initial half-season loan extended after impressing on Tyneside.
Barnsley-born Jacob, who has captained Hull City’s under 23 side, has made 25 appearances for Gateshead.
A problem with his registration meant he did not feature in Tuesday’s 4-1 win over AFC Telford at the International Stadium.
He will, however, be available for Saturday’s home game against
Leamington as Gateshead look to retain top spot in Vanarama National League North.
Player-manager Mike Williamson said: “Jacob would have started against Telford but we had a bit of an issue with his registration.
“We thought it would have been sorted but it was not, which was frustrating as he would have started the game.
“He is a young player who has done very well for us and we are delighted to keep him until the end of the season.”
Jacob is one of three loanees at Gateshead, Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jacob Chapman and Carlisle schemer Taylor Charters the others.
Australian shot-stopper Chapman is on a season-long loan, Charters two games into a one-month loan on Tyneside.
Williamson added: “Charters has not played for a long time but has come in and done well and has a lot about him.
“When he gets his second wind, so to speak, I think he will be a real asset and we will have to see how it pans out.”
Gateshead had only three on the bench in midweek with six players out, Williamson not ruling out further additions.
He said: “We are always on the lookout. There is nothing I can really speak about at the minute – but we have a really good and close group.”
