- By MARK CARRUTHERS

WHITLEY Bay manager Nicky Gray has challenged his players to produce a strong end to the season as he prepares for his first game in charge of the club.

The former Morpeth Town boss was named as successor to Derek Forrest earlier this week and kicks off his reign with a visit to Newcastle Benfield tomorrow.

Their hosts will be looking to secure a first victory under new manager Colin Stromsoy - and Gray admitted it is a tough challenge for his new side.

He said: “This week is all about preparing for Benfield and it is a tough game to start with.

“They are going through changes, just as we are, and they had a disappointing start last weekend.

“They will want to bounce back and will want to impress their new manager.

“I always like challenges and this is one.

“We have 11 games to play and we have to make sure we win as many as possible - and that starts at Benfield.”

FA Vase heroes North Shields return to league action tomorrow with a visit to Bishop Auckland and leaders Consett will hope to bounce back from their Vase exit when they travel to Newton Aycliffe.
