THE Newcastle home of notorious hard man John Henry Sayers has been attacked by a masked gang.

A video circulating on WhatsApp shows two black cars pull up outside the property in Newcastle’s East End, before at least four men jump out carrying what appear to be baseball bats.

They smash windows at Sayers’ home and attack cars outside, while shouting and swearing. The masked men then run back to the cars to make their getaway.

The Chronicle understands Sayers, 59, was at home having tea with his children when the incident happened, at just before 4pm yesterday. None of the family were injured. Dad-of-six Sayers did not call police himself, but it is understood officers were quickly on the scene and a 37-year-old man has been arrested.

This morning the home, on the Fossway, has its windows boarded up. Pictures are also being shared on WhatsApp of a burned out vehicle, thought to have been used in the attack, and fake number plates bearing Sayers’ initials. Sayers and his brothers, Stephen and Michael, earned a reputation as Tyneside’s most notorious hardmen in the 1990s. But they have since pledged to put their criminal pasts behind them.

After the incident John Henry, Stephen and Michael stood outside the damaged home to take a picture. Stephen posted it on Facebook with the caption ‘Three Brothers’.

The Chronicle has also seen a statement signed by John Henry saying he would not be supporting any police investigation or prosecution arising from the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 4.30pm yesterday (Thursday), police received a report of a disturbance at an address on the Fossway, Byker. It was reported that a number of windows had been smashed and damaged caused to vehicles parked in the street.

“As part of enquiries a 37-year-old man has been arrested, he currently remains in police custody at this time. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police using reference number NP-2022 0616 0780.”
