Burnmoor edge home in a thriller

BURNMOOR won a thrilling Dukes North East Premier League Premier Division game against visitors Benwell Hill by just four runs.

The Moor made a solid start, openers Allan Worthy (43) and Ross Greenwell (98) putting on an excellent 143 runs for the first wicket.

They eventually declared on 240-7, Callum Harding claiming 4-30.

In reply, Luke Doneathy fired 76 and Rory Hanley 49 but the Hill fell just short as they lost three wickets in the last over,

Waqas Maqsood, Alexander Simpson, Ryan Pringle, Craig Stephenson and Graeme Bridge claimed two wickets apiece.

Burnopfiel­d decided to bat first at home to Hetton Lyons, a fine 123 not out from Alasdair Appleby from 88 balls - which included 11 fours and four sixes - the biggest contributo­r to their impressive score of 290-5.

Chester-le-Street lost two early wickets against Eppleton but skipper John Coxon steadied the ship with 48 and Quentin Hughes scored 73 as they reached 210-9 from 58 overs.

The visitors made a good start as Kyle Davis struck an impressive 94 and Sam Dinning chipped in with 61 to steer their side to victory on 213-5.

Felling chose to bat first at home to Whitburn, opener Travis Norris amassing an excellent 126 not out from 194 balls which included 16 fours and two sixes.

He put on 145 runs for the first wicket with Tyler Easton, who made 75, as Felling posted 257-2.

Whitburn started badly, losing two early wickets - and were eventually all out for 83, Elliot Fox taking an excellent 5-20.

Sunderland were asked to bat first at champions South Northumber­land and managed a modest 170 as Sean Tindale claimed an excellent 5-33.

Opener Solomon Bell was then ruthless against the Ashbrooke attack, blasting 106 not out from 90 balls - which included 16 fours and two sixes - as South North cruised to 171-1 and victory.
