Absolute Queen tough to oppose

-

ABSOLUTE QUEEN only failed by a narrow margin to make a winning debut last week and can go one better in the Here Come The Girls EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Beverley.

Trained by George Boughey, who has been far less prolific with his juveniles this season than last, she does not have a precocious pedigree.

With that in mind it made her debut run all the more meritorious as she was very weak in the market at Nottingham, being sent off at 14-1.

The winner, Simon and Ed Crisford’s Miska, had the benefit of a previous run to call on and that experience told in the closing stages.

Absolute Queen stuck to her task gamely, though, and was only beaten by a neck, looking sure to improve for the run. It will take a smart one to beat her.

The Trotters Traders Online Discount Warehouse Handicap can go the way of Jedd O’Keeffe’s Saisons D’Or. He might be seven now, but proved last time out when scoring over the course and distance he remains on very good terms with himself.

That was his second win of this season, and seventh overall, taking up to a mark of 73.

He has won from this perch before and another bold bid is anticipated.

Beverley specialist Zihaam is a tentative selection in the John Cleverley Memorial Handicap.

Roger Fell’s eight-year-old has run on the Westwood 26 times, winning six and finishing second on four occasions, so it is fair to say he likes the place.

He has been out of form this season, even at his beloved Beverley, but as a result has dropped to a mark of just 67 – 6lb lower than his last winning mark.

Red Kite will not need to improve much to open his account in the At The Races App Market Movers Restricted Maiden Stakes at Brighton.

Charlie and Mark Johnston’s three-year-old has shaped well in each of his three starts to date, with fourth-placed finishes at Southwell and Lingfield followed by a second here in April.

The winner of that 10-furlong maiden, Makinmedoit, went on to finish third in the Lingfield Oaks Trial and is now rated 90, so it was a decent effort from Red Kite to chase her home.

He has been gelded during the intervening period and should get off the mark in this company.

A Taste Of Honey rates the best bet of the evening at Newbury.

Archie Watson’s Harry Angel filly looked a winner in waiting when second on her Doncaster debut. The winner, Ibiza Love, was not disgraced in the Albany at Royal Ascot a few days ago.
