Ross played a waiting game in his bid to return to management

-

FORMER Sunderland boss Jack Ross has revealed he turned down offers from England following his return to management with Dundee United.

Ross has been handed a two-yeardeal at Tannadice and will be given the opportunity to manage in Europe following their fourth-place finish last season.

The 46-year-old had been out of work for six months following his sacking at Hibernian last December, with whom he had spent just over two years.

Prior to that, Ross had his first spell in management outside Scotland with 18 months in charge at the Stadoum of Light, where he came close to winning promotion to the Championship but for a last-gasp winner for Charlton Athletic in the play-off final.

Ross claimed in the months he has spent out of management offers for a return to England had been refused as he held out for a role with that ‘real buzz and excitement.’

He said: “I had offers from Scotland, England and overseas to return to work but I hakd not had that real buzz of excitement you need to go in and do a good job.

“In all the conversations I’ve had with the club, I’ve felt that buzz and excitement.

“I firmly believe I’ve been given a fantastic opportunity at a terrific club.

“What we did last year was brilliant but the challenge is to deliver consistent success to the club.

“I grew up with Scottish football and I understand Dundee United’s historical standing in the game.

“It’s already a big club but the potential is there for it to continue growing. I have to deliver success to meet those expectations.”
