Plenty of soul down by the sea as festival back
MUSIC, FOOD AND DRINK ON OFFER OVER THE WEEKEND
A festival in a town on the Northumberland coast is returning for the 11th year this July, with tickets starting at just £15.
Festival By The Sea will take place at Meggie’s Burn Fields in Blyth from July 15 – 17 and has more than 20 live acts and food and drink across the threeday weekend. Headlining will be Trevor Nelson’s Soul Nation RnB classics celebration on Sunday afternoon, Smoove & Turrell on the Saturday, and the Baghdaddies on Friday.
Though cancelled in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Festival By The Sea was one of the first festivals to return to the North East last year, but in a socially distanced fashion. The limited crowd was treated to performances from Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp, BBC Radio 6 DJ Craig Charles and this year’s returning Smoove & Turrell.
The festival is back to full strength this year and other things to look out for over the weekend are Kroud Karaoke, a hot tub chill out zone, and a fairground. Rob Dumbrell’s chilli eating contest is sure to raise the July temperature even higher too.
Added to that, there are two new tents for this year’s festival – the MegaDome is a dance zone which will host trance on Friday and disco on Saturday before Trevor Nelson’s headline appearance on Sunday night. There’s also the BrewDog village which will be hosting local and upcoming talent.
Mark Deakin, who heads up the festival, said: “It’s really exciting to be back for our 11th year, especially after the last few years. We are extremely excited to be bringing such a high value event for a very affordable price. A real festival experience for not much more than a trip to the cinema.
“We have been committed to the area since the festival started, back in our old days of operating as The North East Chilli festival, due to the massive support that the coastal area has provided. There is such a great feeling around the North East Coast, everyone is always so friendly and welcoming – we love holding an event that gives everyone the opportunity to come together, which is even more important after the last few years! This year’s festival will see the addition of a brand new dance MegaDome featuring world class acts over three different genres of music over three days. Plus a brand new Brewdog village featuring local talent, and this year a massively increased level of production.”
Festival by the Sea takes place from July 15 – 17 and tickets are £15 for adults and £10 for kids for a day pass, while a full weekend pass is £30 for adults and £15 for children. For more information or to get tickets, visit the website.
