Brugge pull out of move for Carroll

-

FORMER Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll is still on the hunt for a new club, after Belgian side Club Brugge opted to not sign the 33-year-old after he reportedly ‘failed tests’.

Carroll, who has had two spells on Tyneside, cut short his honeymoon in the hopes of signing for the Belgian champions.

The ex-England international had been in Tulum in Mexico with his now wife, Billi Mucklow, and hoped that despite leaving the holiday early, to sign with Brugge following his medical.

However, according to reports, Brugge decided against acquiring the former Liverpool and West Ham striker, meaning that Carroll remains a free agent.

He spent the second half of last season under previous Newcastle manager Steve Bruce at West Brom, having played for Reading during the first half of the last campaign.

During those spells, he managed three goals in 15 appearances for the Baggies, compared to two goals in eight for the Royals at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

Prior to that, Carroll only managed one goal in 43 appearances during his second stint at Newcastle, in a period that was blighted by injuries.

He was then released by the Magpies last summer, having failed to make a significant impact.

Club Brugge won the end-ofseason play-offs in Belgium to claim the title after finishing second behind Union SG in the regular season.

They have a number of former Premier League players in their squad, including ex-Liverpool and Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and one-time Fulham defender Denis Odoi.

A move to Brugge would have enabled Carroll to play in the Champions League for the first time in his career.
