Good effort all round from Tindale

SOUTH North strengthen­ed their grip on top spot in the Dukes North East Premier League’s Premier Division with a 57-run win over Burnopfiel­d.

Batting first, the champions made 237-9 declared – Solomon Bell with 53, Christophe­r Hewison 56, Sean Tindale 44 and James Ruddick with 52, while Matthew Oswell and James Radcliffe shared six wickets between them.

The visitors struggled in reply as Jonathan Wightman and Sean Tindale claimed the first six wickets and were all out for 180.

Wightman ended with 4-71 and Tindale 4-61.

Sunderland blasted out visiting Tynemouth for just 130 as Kieran Waterson claimed an impressive 5-32 from his 15 overs.

Ross Whitfield Junior was then in fine form for the Wearsiders, hitting 73 not out in their total of 131-3.

Eppleton were skittled for just 88 runs when they entertaine­d Whitburn.

Matthew Muchall registered an impressive 5-24 and Elliott Hearn chipped in with 4-28.

In reply, Whitburn also struggled but Kevin D’Almeida steadied the ship with 44 not out to steer his side to 92-4 and victory.

Second-placed Hetton Lyons scored 210-8 at Benwell Hill thanks largely to Chris Martin (42) and Gary Scott (30).

The Hill replied positively, opener Angus Guy scoring 86.

His only support came with 26 from Kyle Coetzer and 22 from Mohsin Mukhtar, but it was enough to earn them a draw with 203-7.

Burnmoor totalled 252-8 declared at home to Felling.

Graham Clarke posted 62, Marcus Brown 58 and Alexander Simpson 49, while Paul Leonard took 4-55 from nine overs.

Felling crumbled to 38-5 at one stage as Waqas Maqsood returned figures of 5-43.

Their only scorer of note was Sebastian Allan with 72 not out and his efforts gave Felling a share of the spoils on 153-8.

Chester-le-Street were asked to bat first at home to Newcastle and amassed 237-7, mainly thanks to Quinten Hughes, who made a patient 76 not out, and Jacob McCann with 50.

The visitors struggled to 77-4 but Jacques du Toit struck 95 not out from 93 balls to guide his team to a winning score of 242-5.
