Revamp on the menu for Thai eaterie loved by United stars
AN Eldon Square restaurant popular with Newcastle United players including Jonjo Shelvey is set to undergo a major transformation.
Thai restaurant chain Chaophraya has been a hit with Geordie diners and Newcastle United players since it opened on the rooftop of the shopping centre five years ago, offering incredible views of Newcastle along with a large outdoor dining terrace.
Now the restaurant brand Thai Leisure Group has announced Chaophraya Newcastle is set to undergo a major revamp of its interior and outdoor area, including new carpets, floors, lighting, upholstery, entrance and chairs.
Work is set to start in September and last around a week, affecting some opening hours during that time.
Owner Kim Kaewraikhot, who now runs a multi-million-pound restaurant empire after first coming to England with just £20 to her name, will also revamp a number of other Chaophraya and Thaikhun restaurants across the country. Newcastle is set to receive one of the biggest chunks of the £1 million being spent by the company across its UK branches.
Key changes will include redesigning and modernising the front of house and entrances as well as the dining and bar areas of several key restaurants.
Ian Leigh, managingdirector at Thai Leisure Group, said: “At Thai Leisure Group we pride ourselves on constantly innovating and developing our offering, which is why we’ve remained the UK’s biggest Thai restaurant chain.
“This significant investment will elevate the dining experience even further for guests, allowing customers to enjoy a greater range of Thai cuisine in a comfortable and aesthetic environment.
“We are excited to unveil the refurbishment work taking place across several of our core restaurants and look forward to welcoming new and returning customers over the coming months.”
