Holiday help for Sunshine families
HI, Sunshine News readers.
What another glorious week of weather we’ve had. Our team has been enjoying some time working at home in the sunshine, and so they should.
We’ve had a week of confirmations as we prepare for a packed season of events this autumn. We’ve filled all our spaces on our Chillingham Castle Scarefest Challenge, which is taking place on Sunday, October 23.
We have a fierce pack of willing challengers who are keen to don their ghost-hunting T-shirts and brave the night in the castle, but not before they take on a fundraising challenge to raise money for our children and the equipment they so desperately need.
We’ve also had confirmation of some collection dates with our friends at Morrisons. If you can spare an hour or two of your time and could join us at Blaydon Morrisons on Friday, 26 and Sunday, 27 of August, or Cowgate Morrisons on Friday, September 2, please contact debbie.cowling@thesunshinefund.org to book a time slot.
While many of us may see charitable donations as non-essential spend given the recent rise in living costs, without your donations we will be unable to fund pieces of equipment which are essential to the lives of so many local families, so it’s important that we continue to raise awareness of our cause and raise funds at community events. A donation of your time is just as valuable to us.
If you’re a fan of The Great British Bake Off, then you’ll likely know that you don’t have long to wait until it returns to our screens in September.
Now, our team loves a bit of cake and, as some of Greggs’ best customers, we couldn’t see in baking season without introducing a brand-new campaign. Make of that what you will as you’ll need to wait a little while longer to hear what we have planned.
If you have little ones then we’ll assume you know the struggles of keeping the kids entertained during the summer holidays and we know our Sunshine families struggle more than most to find affordable, accessible, and inclusive activities that are suitable for children with complex conditions and needs while including siblings too, so we have launched a series of events exclusively for our families.
Thanks to Metrocentre for gifting us use of their Community Space to host a sensory messy play session next Wednesday for our families. We’ll be sharing pictures of this session in next week’s column and what it’s meant to our families. Remember, if you are a parent or carer of a child with a disability or additional need, you can join our exclusive group, Sunshine Fund Families, on Facebook where you can find out about how we can support your children through equipment and events as well as enabling you to connect with other parents and carers in your area.

Have a great weekend.
