This North East pharmacy is aiming to be better for patients, better for our people, and better for our planet
AVICENNA ARE INVESTING HEAVILY IN THE NORTH EAST, AND WANT TO ENSURE THEIR PATIENTS GET EXCELLENT SUPPORT AND ADVICE
WHETHER you need to pick up a prescription, or want to get a professional opinion about a minor ailment or illness, many of us rely heavily on our local pharmacy.
They can often play a big part in the community too, with many local residents relying on them for support and help with their health and wellbeing.
Avicenna are an independent pharmacy who have spent 30 years serving their community, and remain 100 per cent independent. That way, they can ensure their patients will always receive fair and impartial guidance from their pharmacists.
Avicenna’s CEO Jonathan Power was born and raised in the North East, and now he wants to ensure Avicenna invests heavily in their North East locations. They already have a whole host of pharmacies across the North East on both sides of the river, so you should be able to find your local Avicenna pharmacy in no time.
InvestIng In the north east
Thanks to his Northern roots, Jonathan knew he wanted to ensure the people in the North East had access to great health services from Avicenna’s pharmacies.
Avicenna’s vision of being better for patients, better for their people and better for our planet means they have invested in making sure their locations are doing as much as they can to improve the services with great sustainable practices.
Making sure their customers had great services readily available to them, as well as excellent customer service was really important. That’s why they have opted to invest heavily in the region and its existing pharmacies.
They are currently in the process of giving their locations a makeover, with some being transformed into brand new future concept pharmacies.
After the success of their first concept pharmacy, the next branch to be given a new look was their Wallsend pharmacy. Previously located at Portugal Place, their new Wallsend store is now known as Wallsend Pharmacy, and can be found at The Forum, 17 High Street, Wallsend, NE28 8JA, and will have a whole host of fantastic initiatives to help do more for the planet and Avicenna’s patients.

The pharmacy itself has been given a makeover with energy efficient lighting and a new consultation room, and they now offer more services than ever before.
Patients of the pharmacy can not only get their prescriptions, but they can also access Avicenna’s range of new health services and support, including mental health, sexual health, stop smoking and healthy eating clinics.
There will also be a travel clinic, known as Aviclinic, which offers advice and support for all your travel needs.
Patients will now also be able to collect their prescriptions 24/7 thanks to their new locker services, so you can always make sure you have your prescription regardless of other time commitments. If you can’t make it to the pharmacy yourself, their brand new electric delivery van will be able to drop off your prescriptions for you, something which has already been a big hit with patients.
Avicenna’s NHS-approved app ‘Manage My Meds’ is a repeat prescription app, designed to make it easier for patients to manage their repeat prescriptions online and have them sent directly to their local pharmacy.
The app will connect directly to your medical records, so you never need to worry about missing a repeat prescription again. The app is available on both Apple and Android.

Avicenna wants to help relieve some of the pressure that GPs and local A& E departments are currently facing by making their pharmacies the front line for people with minor illness and ailments.
Their pharmacists can be the first port of call for anyone who needs medical attention for minor things such as insect bites, coughs and colds, cuts and scrapes and aches and pains. You’ll also be able to speak to one of their pharmacists about your medication and ask any questions you may have.
