Best is yet to come from us – Bay’s boss

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

WHITLEY Bay manager Nicky Gray believes there is more to come from his side after it made it three wins in four games against Redcar Athletic.

Isaac Walker put the visitors ahead at Hillheads but Gray’s men reacted well to take control with goals from Elliott Day, Mal Morien and Scott Lowery.

Owen Clarkson grabbed a late counter for the visitors but they were unable to find an equaliser and returned to Teesside emptyhanded.

After the game, Gray said: “We are a new team with ten or 11 new players but we are finding ways to win games.

“We cannot look too far ahead of ourselves but we have good senior players and promising youngsters.

“It is a good mix for us, we have something to build on and I think there will be more to come.”

Ashington returned to the top of the Division One table with an emphatic home win against Crook Town.

Dean Briggs was the star of the show for the Colliers as he bagged a well-taken hat-trick and there were goals for summer signings Robbie Dale and Lee Mason as Ian Skinner’s men roared to the points.

Callum Larmouth, Mechack Kanda and Guy Bates all scored twice as West Allotment Celtic romped to a 7-1 home win against Pickering Town.

Michael Baxter also netted for Allotment and Bobby Rye grabbed what turned out to be a consolation for their beleaguered visitors.

Callum Guy, Andrew Johnson and Thibault Charmey all notched as Sunderland RCA claimed a first league victory with a 5-0 hammering of Penrith and Newcastle Benfield midfielder Aidan Haley grabbed the only goal in their 1-0 success at Thornaby.

Billingham Town extended their perfect start to the Division Two season with a dramatic 4-3 win against Boldon CA.

Leighton Harris, Jack Pounder and Bailey Judson all found the net for the hosts as they made it four wins from four and left two goals from Levi Collins and one from Brandon Kirkbride to go without reward.

Birtley Town produced a fine display as Sam Hedley, Aidan Rutledge and Glen Hargrave scored in their 3-0 triumph at Billingham Synthonia and Michael James scored the only goal in Boro Rangers’ narrow win at Blyth Town.
