Starlet on his Milestones for the black-and-whites

- “I think I was about to shoot or

lowgate End and it was an unreal feeling for me and my family. “But you must keep on doing what you are doing and not get carried away. Otherwise you could fall away really, I’d say.”

Big brother Jamie is another to experience life in the first team during pre-season with Eddie Howe’s squad. Lewis said: “We have come through the football system together down at the Academy. Every day we’d travel in together.

“That’s changed now (with Lewis at the first team base) but me and Jamie are still quite close.

“Obviously, we are in the same boat, doing the same stuff and we both understand each other very well.”

Miley’s younger brother Mason is also on Newcastle’s books and his littlest brother Layton is also a player at Sunderland’s Academy. When asked if even his youngest sibling is on hand to throw in some advice, Lewis quips: “The littlest one? He is crazy that one, always flying around the house but he’s also a good little footballer! One to watch!

“All of them are buzzing for me though. That’s where it comes from. My dad used to coach our teams at Beamish Football Centre. Me, Jamie, Mason and Layton all went there so they know it’s good to see.

“It’s been a really special journey for me. To play for the boys club around the corner from

Miley on his first competitive start against Pep Guardiola’s trophy-laden Man City side: “It was a taste of things. You are playing on your full senior debut against one of the best teams in the world!

“But it was a really good taste for me to get 45 minutes against a team of that calibre.”

Miley on hitting the bar seconds

into his debut at Chelsea:

“I hit the bar down at Stamford Bridge on my Premier League debut.

“I learned a lot from that day alone. For a start, it was the first time I’d played in front of a crowd!” about being recognised for fans or asked for a selfie, Miley said: “I thought it was weird at first but I am used to it now. The more games you play the more people will recognise you, I don’t mind it.”

Miley’s technical ability has been there for all to see this season, setting up goals for £63m man Alexander Isak in a 4-1 win against Chelsea.

When asked about his passing skills and decision-making in matches, Miley said: “We did a lot of technical work at the Academy.

“But I also did quite a lot of technical stuff in lockdown with a 1:1 coach near my house and that was really good.

“I have always been good technically throughout the Academy. “I have just tried to keep working on it but I know I can get even better.”

Miley had a hand in four goals during United’s 4-4 draw with Luton and is being tipped for an England Under-21 call-up next month. Already, it feels like he’s been around for ages, but he’s played just 13 games in the topflight and he’s still a raw teenager.

Miley said: “You have to be a normal 17-year-old too, you can’t get carried away with it. But on a match day, you have to be a man and be professional when you are playing the game.” where I used to live to the Premier League and Champions League stage, it could not be any better.”

Away from the four walls of his family home though, Miley knows that life has changed, whether that’s a trip to the Metro Centre or heading to the restaurant with family and friends. When asked
