Still can do ‘special things’ at Sunderland, says Brown

- Will Still

FORMER Sunderland defender Wes Brown reckons Will Still could “bring some new tricks” to the club amid speculation he will be handed the vacant manager’s job in the summer.

Speaking to instantcasino. com, Brown, who was with the Black Cats for five years after joining in 2011, believes that Reims manager Still could shake things up a bit at the Stadium of Light if given the role.

Current interim head coach Mike Dodds is expected to return to the coaching team once the season is done and so far he has presided over four defeats – with Sunderland having lost their last six in the Championship.

When asked about the prospect of Still taking over, Brown said: “He’s obviously a young manager and he might be able to bring some new tricks in. Sunderland is all about love – it’s about feeling the crowd and getting a reaction from the players in order for them to get to where they want to be.

“I don’t see why Will Still couldn’t do a good job. I always think as a manager, you need to get the players behind you. If he can do that then he might be able to do some special things there, because it’s that sort of club.”

Still, 31, is considered one of the brightest young bosses in Europe. He has been at Reims in the French Lique 1 since the end of the 2021/22 season when he joined as assistant manager. He took over as caretaker on October 13, 2022 and following an undefeated stretch of five games, he was appointed as manager for the rest of the 2022/23 season, becoming the youngest manager in Europe’s top five leagues at 30 years of age.

Reportedly, due to him not holding a UEFA Pro Licence at the time, Reims were fined 25,000 euros for every match he managed until he started a monthly course at the National Football Centre in Belgium.
