SHILDON came out on top in the battle of the Division One title contenders with a 3-1 win at leaders Bishop Auckland.

Goals from Joe Posthill and David Vincent put the Railwaymen in control at half-time but the Two-blues roared back into the contest when Liam Henderson netted with 15 minutes remaining.

But it was Shildon that secured what could be a crucial win thanks to Posthill’s second goal of the day as they ensured they move to the top of the table on goal difference.

Play-off contenders Heaton Stanningto­n and Birtley Town battled their way to a goalless draw and.

West Auckland were grateful for a last-gasp penalty from Josh Scott as he snatched a point for his side after Craig Moody had put the visitors ahead at the Wanted Stadium.

Easington Colliery claimed a narrow home win against Horden CW as Brad Forster got the only goal at Welfare Park, while Newcastle Blue Star were 2-1 winner at Ryton and Crawcrook Albion as Regan Paterson and Shaun Ryder scored either side of an Aaron Costello equaliser.

Newcastle University and Prudhoe YC shared the spoils at Essity Park as a late equaliser from Jay Harris cancelled out an opener from visitors’ forward Ben Dibbfuller, and Yarm and Eaglesclif­e and Thornaby failed to break the deadlock in a hard-fought 90 minutes.
