Grant giving back to communities

- JOHN HODGKINS, Seaton Sluice

his stupidity by placing colleagues in the firing line. Disgraces himself and his profession. And the reaction of his peers? I was puzzled.

Where were the calls for his resignation? Instead we heard oodles of sympathy and support coming from insiders – the Chancellor of the Exchequer going so far as describing William Wragg as “courageous”. Appalling behaviour from an intelligent person in a responsible position and the best the establishment can do is offer forgiveness and suggest we move on. Am I alone in finding all this sympathy for Wragg nauseating?

Frankly, I am delighted he was targeted by malign actors. We need more targeting. It’s high time we unmasked the rest of the weak-minded idiots who have wangled their way into top political roles. Let’s rid

ourselves once and for all of those inadequate gullible morons. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Russian and Chinese hackers (or whoever Wragg’s tormentors happened to be) for their sterling work.

TWENTY community projects have secured funding from the North of The Tyne’s £1.35m Community Partnership Programme which covers the north and west of the city.

It aims to support projects that bring communities together to build relationships, create more vibrant neighbourhoods, provide opportunities for residents and tackle issues. In our own ward the Kenton Park Community

Association, a charity, has successfully applied to the Partnership and been awarded £59k capital funding and £73k in revenue funding. The money will pay for resurfacing of the hall floor, refurbishment of the soft play area, new heating, hot water, new air conditioning and sensory equipment at Kenton Park Sports Centre. The rest of the cash is to be used to fund community development across Montagu, Kenton Bar and North Kenton.

In the near future the charity intends to set up a Friends of North Kenton Park which will work alongside Urban Green to make further improvements including a new wildlife garden thanks to this grant.
