A MUM has told of the terrifying moment she realised her son had been stabbed as violence flared outside her home.

The woman, who the Chronicle has agreed not to name, feared her 24-yearold lad would be killed in the incident, which happened in Craghead, near Stanley in County Durham.

And now, after John Wright was jailed for three years for his role in the attack, the victim’s mum has relived her terror.

The mum said: “I was thinking the worse. He’s not the same person he was. I think he knows how close he was that night to losing his life. He never goes out the house now.”

Trouble flared close to the victim’s mum’s home, last August. The motherof-four said she went looking for her son and was then told he had been stabbed. He was then brought back to her home bleeding heavily.

“I was running all over trying to find out where he had gone,” she explained. “Then someone shouted that he had been stabbed.

“Someone brought him back to the house and he was stabbed to bits. It was horrendous, we were trying to stop the blood. I thought I was going to lose him.” The woman said her son had been stabbed several times and hit with a baseball bat.

“The Air Ambulance was there, but they decided it was easier to transport him by ambulance,” she said. “They got the bleeding under control and he had a number of operations.

“He was stabbed three or four times. He’s certainly lucky to be alive.”

At Teesside Crown Court, Wright pleaded guilty to damaging property – a Ford Fiesta – violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon – a baseball bat – and wounding with intent.

The 39-year-old, of Fellside View, Burnhope, Durham, was jailed for three years for the offences on Friday.

But the victim’s mum, who has revealed pictures of the injuries he suffered, said her family are now living in fear of the day he is freed.

She added: “I feel like we will be looking over our shoulders 24/7.”
