Champions win in clash of the titans

SOUTH Northumber­land defeated Hetton Lyons by five wickets in the top match of the day in the Dukes ECB North East Premier League’s Premier Division.

The Lyons’ Ben Mckinney made 60 and Rahatul Javed 35 but the Wearsiders were still limited to a modest 191 all out as Ollie Mcgee took 3-59.

The reigning champions then sealed victory thanks to contributi­ons from Solomon Bell (39), Tshepang Dithole (51) and skipper Adam Cragg (51).

Tynemouth amassed 206-8 at Eppleton thanks to an opening stand of 87 between Ben Debnam (42) and Ben Mcgee (61), Andrew Ebdale claiming 4-45 and Taj Wali 3-55.

The home side then lost early wickets but Sam Dinning struck 47 and Connor Whitelock 48 as they put on 70 runs for the fourth wicket.

Dean Musther then posted 48 not out to steer his team to victory on 210-7.

Felling totalled 195-8 at home to Newcastle as Issac Unsworth and Will Taylor shared six wickets.

The visitors slumped to 20-5 in reply as Sebastian Allison (5-49) ripped through the top-order batting.

However, Joe Anderson smashed 65 and Jacques Du Toit 72, the pair putting on 104 runs for the fifth wicket.

Elliot Fox with 3-68 then turned the game as Newcastle were eventually all out for 182.

Burnmoor reached 202-9 at Sunderland, former Durham allrounder Ryan Pringle contributi­ng an outstandin­g 124 from 110 balls, which included 11 fours and five sixes, after they were struggling on 81-5. Micky Allan claimed 4-6.

The Ashbrooke outfit then collapsed to 47-7 as Waqas Maqsood (4-29) and Pringle (5-28) opened them up and they were eventually all out for just 79.

Burnopfiel­d decided to bat first at Whitburn, totalling 201 all out.

Jonathan Pears made a useful 71 while Mason Bell and Adam May shared six wickets.

The home side struggled against Mitchell Killeen (3-65) early on but Lee Henderson struck an excellent 82 not out to guide Whitburn to victory on 204-5.

Benwell Hill posted a useful 250-9 at home to Chester-le-street, who ended on 188-7 after being in early trouble on 16-3.
