Hoppings attendance one of the biggest ever
ORGANISERS of The Hoppings have revealed that this year’s event drew its biggest-ever crowds with a whopping 400,000 visitors paying a visit to the travelling fair.
The week-long event, which has been held annually on Newcastle’s Town Moor for decades, made a welcome return to the city in June after a two-year hiatus because of Covid.
The enormous travelling fair is the biggest in Europe with more than 450 attractions.
Now organisers have praised the thousands of well-behaved visitors who turned out in force to support the event, which was trouble-free, and making it one of the best-attended Hoppings ever.
Ryan Crow, of Crow Events, said that this was the most family-oriented Hoppings he had ever seen and his team was thrilled by the size of the crowds and their behaviour.
“We didn’t know what to expect after Covid, but it was a memorable week in the North East,” he said.
“Everything went like clockwork and with British summertime on our side, everyone had a fantastic time.
“We had lots of families from all over the North East as well as families travelling from as far as Leeds, Carlisle and even some who popped down from Scotland.
“Everyone just wanted to enjoy themselves after missing the fair for two years during the pandemic.”
This is the first year that the Hoppings has been operated by Crow Events.
The family-run company took over the management from The Freemen of Newcastle, who still act as consultants for the event.
Crow’s is one of the UK’S largest fairground and events providers and has been in operation since 1865.
And Ryan said his team are already planning next year’s Hoppings, which is set to bring new attractions to the city. He said: “Now we are starting on the preparations for next year’s event and we have even more new attractions which we will be announcing throughout the year.”
