Top that! Lucy a winner with her former pizza parlour

-

A DOMINO’S pizza restaurant has changed its name to ‘Lucy’s’ in honour of England footballer Lucy Bronze ahead of the women’s Euro 2022 final.

The 30-year-old defender, from Northumberland, used to work at the Domino’s branch and has a close connection to Leeds after living in the city while studying for her degree.

Ahead of battling Germany this weekend, Berwick-born Lucy is being honoured with her very own store in St Annes Road, Headingley, which will be renamed Lucy’s for the remainder of the tournament.

The England star, who scored a magnificent header in the 4-0 semifinal triumph over Sweden, worked at the store during her days at Leeds Metropolitan University.

To celebrate the success of the Lionesses in reaching Sunday’s final, Domino’s is giving away a free

pizza to any customers named Lucy who collect their food from the Headingley tomorrow.

Bronze, who was raised on Holy Island and attended Duchess’ High School in Alnwick, is one of a fourstrong contingent in the England women’s squad which will go for

glory at Wembley tomorrow.

Fellow former Sunderland player Beth Mead is the tournament’s top scorer with six goals and has been one of the stand-out performers as Sarina Wiegman’s side have progressed to the decider.

Sunderland-born Jill Scott, 35,

who has won 160 caps, is hoping a final triumph will also pondering whether it will be her national team farewell.

She had hinted that Euro 2022 might be her swansong with the Lionesses.

But Jill, who is closing in on Fara

Williams’ 172-appearance record also insists that she has enjoyed the Euros so much she may want to carry on with the World Cup just a year away.

She said yesterday: “I actually don’t know (if I will retire). I will see what this week looks like then next week there will be some conversations to be had and we’ll take it from there.”

She says the Euros has been an incredible journey – but England still need to complete it.

She added: “We said before we really want to inspire the nation. We’ve ticked all of those boxes. We’ve earned the right for the team to go out there on Sunday and enjoy it.

“It’s been an incredible journey so far and hopefully there’s one big tick left to do.”

Defender Demi Stokes, like Scott also a former Sunderland player, is also in the England squad.
