Henderson: Red Devils let me down

-

DEAN Henderson has hit out at Manchester United for failed promises after claiming he turned down a number of loan moves last summer.

The 25-year-old failed to make a single appearance in the Premier League for the Red Devils last term, despite being told he would battle it out for the number one spot at Old Trafford.

The former Sheffield United loanee was linked with a move to St James’ Park last summer and again in January with the Magpies keen to bolster their back line.

However, Newcastle instead opted to sign England international Nick Pope this summer following Burnley’s relegation into the Championship.

Henderson has hit out at his treatment in Manchester last season, claiming he was “fuming” at missing out on 12 months of football.

He said: “I turned so many good loans down last summer for that reason, being told I would be the No 1, and they would not let me go.

“It was so frustrating. To sit there and waste 12 months was criminal really at my age. I was fuming.

“I tried to join Forest before

Erik Ten Hag joined - I told the hierarchy I needed to play football, I didn’t want to be htere playing second fiddle.

“I was almost gone before the new manager came in and I have not spoken to him since.”

When asked whether he had spoken to Erik ten Hag before heading out on loan to the City Ground, Henderson added: “No. I did not really want the manager to come in and be able to see me in training because I knew he would probably want to keep me.”

Henderson could start for Forest on Saturday when they open their Premier League campaign against Newcastle at St James’ Park.
