Toon in fresh bid for Toffees star Gordon
NEWCASTLE United are considering a fresh bid for Everton star Anthony Gordon with Leicester City still reluctant to sell James Maddison.
The Magpies were met with similar resistance to the Maddison offer on Gordon earlier this summer when they were believed to have submitted a £35million bid for the winger.
Back then Everton stated
Gordon was “not for sale” but there could yet be a tipping point for the Toffees and with injuries mounting boss Frank Lampard may have to reinvest in his squad to avoid another battle against relegation.
Both Yerry Mina and Ben
Godfrey picked up injuries at the weekend and the Toffees may need a cash injection to help bring in replacements.
With Dominic Calvert-lewin also injured, Gordon had to play as a lone striker in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.
Whether he is still an Everton player by September 1 remains to be seen with Newcastle still keen on the Merseysider.
There was also interest from Tottenham in Gordon at the start of the window with Newcastle ensuring they were in the race for his signature at that time.
Whether Newcastle would be frontrunners this time remains to be seen.
A huge bid for Maddison of around £50million was turned down by Leicester and Newcastle are pondering whether to return or take another look at the Gordon situation.
Eddie Howe has made it clear he is in the market for another forward and winger.
When asked about new signings at the weekend, Howe said: “I love the individuals we have but I would like to add some more quality to that if possible.”
