A knifeman strikes at PO - again
A KNIFEMAN fled emptyhanded after a brave post office worker refused to hand over cash.
The would-be robber burst into the shop on Saltwell Road in Gateshead, at around 6am yesterday before threatening the woman with a blade.
She refused to give the balaclava-wearing bandit a penny and he ran away.
The staff member was distressed but unharmed.
The suspect is white, around 5ft 8in and wearing all black.
Police said: “Detectives want to speak to anyone who may have seen the man fleeing the area or anyone who may have seen somebody acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident.”
It is the second time in a year the store has been targeted by robbers.
In July a raider armed with a kitchen knife burst in and stole a mobile.
