Beaten Whitehouse hit by Conservative blues!

-

MORPETH Conservative Club put their league form behind them to defeat Whitehouse Ashington 2-0 in the Saints Shield final.

There were very few chances early on with most of the play in midfield.

Conservative Club then started to get on top with Alex Laviers being the main threat.

His pace took him past a Whitehouse defender and into the penalty area, where he set up Greg Woodburn to score on 26 minutes.

Whitehouse came out more determined after half-time and put pressure on the Morpeth side’s defence.

However, with 10 minutes remaining Conservative Club went 2-0 up.

James Jackson was sent clear down the right and scored with a shot across the goalkeeper.

With time running out Whitehouse nearly scored.

The Conservative goalkeeper was caught off his line and the ball dropped over his head - only to land on top of the crossbar.

Amble Tavern defeated Bedlington Market Tavern 4-1 in the S A Randolph Cup decider.

Before the game there was a minute’s silence for match and league sponsor Jimmy Scott from Standard Security, who passed away in January. All his family turned up for the afternoon.

Amble Tavern started the stronger and it was no surprise when they went in front.

A neat through-ball found Josh Hay, who outpaced the Bedlington defenders to chip the ball over the goalkeeper.

Amble, despite having all the pressure, failed to add to their advantage until two minutes before half-time.

They gained a free-kick just outside the penalty area and Matty Graham stepped up and curled the ball into the top corner with the goalkeeper well beaten.

Amble went 3-0 up in the second period with a carbon copy of their first goal, Hay again outpacing the defence to score.

However, two minutes later, the Market Tavern were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box - which John Paxton converted.

This inspired the Bedlington side, who started to get behind the Amble defence.

However, Amble side made the game safe with a fourth goal.

From a free-kick, the ball was floated to the back post where Rob Baker headed into the net unchallenged.

In the J D Marnock Cup, Ashington Station Lounge triumphed 2-1 against Ashington Town Central.

The Green prevailed 3-1 at home against Newshan Victory - Karl Boughen (2) and James Thompson for the Green - while Red Lion just squeezed past Broomhill North End Trap 3-2.
