Title hopes of Mill are Scotch-ed!

CONSETT Scotch Arms made the Divsion One title race more interestin­g by inflicting just a second defeat on favourites Blackhall Mill and Chopwell.

With Andrew Rennoldson hitting a hat-trick and Dan Walker also netting, second-placed Scotch moved to within six points of their title rivals.

They have one game in hand over Mill.

Derek Waters scored twice for the visitors, who remain in the driving seat as they require four points from their remaining two games.

Division Two side Winlaton Crown and Cannon sprung a surprise to eliminate Division One’s Consett Cricketers Ex-Juniors from the Consett Charity Cup - going through to the quarter-finals courtesy of the 5-3 scoreline.

They meet another Division One side in the final eight as they will host Consett Demi.

Demi had Adrian Bailey on top form as he hit all five of his side’s goals in the 5-3 victory over East Stanley Masons.

Liam Orr netted twice and Adam Clarke once for the away side.

Oxhill Central needed a counter in extra time to see off the challenge of Division Two promotion rivals Consett The Barn.

They finally edged the ninegoal thriller as Dan Maddison and Joe Gill both notched twice and Gav Clews once, a hat-trick from Rob McConnell and a single strike from Liam Dempsey in vain for the Barn.

Division Two leaders Winlaton Highlander put five without reply past Division Three’s Consett Station WMC to make the quarters, their strikes from Ross Heslop (2), Matt Grayson, Michael Grugan and Callum Landells.

Marc Humphreys was at the treble as Leadgate defeated Division Two rivals Stanley Ball Alley 4-2.

Rio Connelly struck the other, with Ben Harvey and Iain Curson on target for Alley.

South Moor Sports defeated Burnopfiel­d Sun Inn 6-2 as Jake Stafford struck twice and Jamie Blanchard, Rob Barron, Scott Watson and Dean Pearce once each.

For Sun, Alex Britton was twice on the mark.
