Gayle simply the best, says Bees keeper

BRENTFORD goalkeeper Dan Bentley has singled out Dwight Gayle as the first name that “springs to mind” when he considers who the best player in the Championship is.

Newcastle United forward Gayle has netted 21 times so far this season, including scoring twice against the Bees at St James’ Park and once at Griffin Park.

And Gayle, alongside Shelvey – who Bentley describes as having a “ridiculous” passing range – are the players who have impressed the Bees goalkeeper most this season.

“I think Dwight Gayle was one who springs to mind,” Bentley told Get West London when asked who he believes the best player in the Championship is.

“He’s a class player and will play in the Premier League next year.

“That’s assuming Newcastle continue in the way they are for the rest of the season.

“Shelvey again, his range of passing was, quite frankly, ridiculous.

“I’ve not seen anyone pass like him, apart from Josh McEachran of course.

“Britt Assombalonga is someone I know personally who perhaps didn’t play to his potential against us and he’s a real handful.

“[Jonathan] Kodjia at [Aston] Villa is excellent. [Conor] Hourihane is an excellent player. The list is endless.

“There are so many good players in the division.

“Sone Aluko was a good player. Tom Cairney – good player. They’re [Fulham] our rivals but there’s no doubting their ability.

“There’s a lot of very good players – [Fernando] Forestieri at Sheffield Wednesday. I could go on forever.”
