Toon target Judge’s verdict is to stay a Bee

NEWCASTLE United transfer target Alan Judge has signed a two-year contract with Brentford effectively ending any lingering chance of signing for the Magpies.

The Republic of Ireland winger was wanted by Newcastle in the summer window but United boss Rafa Benitez opted to take a rain check on the player and check his fitness later in the year.

Judge was still not fit enough to make the move in January and Newcastle opted against chasing the winger.

The 28-year-old would have been available on a free transfer this summer but Brentford have secured his future with a new deal.

Brentford head coach Dean Smith said: “I am really pleased Alan has committed his immediate future to us.

“He has been an integral member of the squad since he joined and has played a massive part in the recent success of the club.

“He is close to a full recovery from the terrible injury he suffered and we will reap the benefits when he returns to the standards he was setting in the Championship prior to the injury, which earned him his first full international cap and plaudits from managers and peers from within the Championship.

“It is a great boost to the staff, the squad and supporters his future remains at Brentford.”
