A LIFELONG Newcastle fan has had a picture of Bradley Lowery tattooed on his leg as a lasting tribute.

Lee Laverick, 42, from Scunthorpe travelled to Art La Vey Tattoo Studio in Gateshead to get the artwork etched on his leg.

The tattoo, which shows a smiling Bradley Lowery giving a thumbs up in Sunderland shirt, took 12 hours to complete.

Lee, originally from Horden, said he was inspired by the six-year-old’s battle with neuroblastoma which he sadly lost on July 7.

He said: “What he has achieved in football is amazing, he has brought teams together.

“He captured the heart of the world and he was only six years old, he was amazing.”

Lee had several other tattoos already, but said none were as meaningful as the Bradley tattoo which was done by artist Paul LaVey.

He said: “It took 12 hours, it was extremely painful but that’s nothing compared to the pain that little bairn went through.”

Brave Bradley Lowery lost his battle with cancer on July 7 and thousands of people turned out to his funeral a week later.

Hundreds of thousands of people followed the little lad’s journey after he was diagnosed as terminal last year.

In the last six months of his life the six-year-old Black Cats superfan made amazing memories and captured the heart of the nation, appearing as a mascot for England, being a guest of honour at the Grand National and forging a friendship with Jermaine Defoe.

Bradley’s family have set up a foundation in his name to help other children suffering from cancer.
