WISHES can soon come true for charities and good causes across the North East as the Chronicle’s Wish campaign returns.

We’re giving away £25,000 to the inspirational not-for-profit organisations helping our region’s communities.

But to claim a share these worthy causes will need your help - as the more tokens they collect from our papers the bigger the cut of the pot they could receive.

Now in its seventh year, the Wish campaign has given away £230,000 to 1,150 groups who between them have collected more than 17 million tokens.

For the past four years the group to collect the most tokens has been Gosforth-based charity Daft as a Brush, which transports outpatients, free of charge, to and from hospital for chemotherapy and radiotherapy cancer treatment.

Last year, more than two million tokens were collected by 149 groups.

Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care received the biggest chunk of the prize pot, benefitting from £2,807.47.

After receiving the cheque, founder Brian Burnie said: “This is for the staff who are really passionate about helping people going through a difficult time.

“We did 20,000 patient journeys last year. The money will go towards helping more people and getting us our 23rd ambulance so we can do more trips.”

Other groups who took part in last year’s Wish campaign included the Great North Air Ambulance Service, which took home £2,500 and Blaydon Youth Community FC which pocketed £459.

All sorts of organisations can get involved, from sports groups to animal charities, schools to Scouts, and charities to church groups, with Wish an ideal way to boost coffers with extra cash.

To get involved, all you need to do is register at www.chroniclelive. co.uk/wish by September 25.

Once accepted on to the Wish list, you will be provided with a starter pack giving you all the materials you need to get your supporters ready.

Then it’s simply a case of waiting until October 11 when we’ll start printing tokens for you to collect.

Tokens will be printed daily in the Chronicle until January 6 2018.

It’s then up to you, your supporters and Chronicle readers how much you receive, determined by the amount of tokens collected.

Groups will have until February 6 to send all their tokens in. Once all tokens have been counted and verified, groups will be presented with cheques for the relevant amount.

After all the tokens have been counted and the money allocated, we will publish all the details as to who is getting what in a special Wish supplement on Tuesday, February 27.
