El­derly man dies fol­low­ing ill­ness on plane

AN el­derly plane pas­sen­ger who fell ill on his flight to New­cas­tle has died.

An 81-year-old man be­came ill on board Jet2 flight LS518 from Tener­ife to New­cas­tle on Sun­day night, Air­live re­ported.

The Boe­ing 737-800 plane was di­verted to Cork Air­port.

When the plane landed at 7.15pm in Cork, the man was rushed to the ter­mi­nal and im­me­di­ately re­ceived treat­ment from med­i­cal staff.

De­spite the ef­forts of medics how­ever, the man was pro­nounced dead shortly af­ter land­ing.

All pas­sen­gers on the flight were brought to the de­par­ture hall, where they waited un­til a re­place­ment flight ar­rived.

The re­place­ment flight for the re­main­ing pas­sen­gers ar­rived at 10.30pm and took them on to New­cas­tle.
