Woman dead after being hit by a truck
A WOMAN who was knocked down by a lorry on Tyneside has died.
The collision on Durham Road involving a truck and pedestrian happened at just after 11.15am yesterday, a short distance from its junction with Belle Vue Bank, in Low Fell, Gateshead.
A bystander was seen giving the woman CPR before the emergency services attended.
The North East Ambulance Service sent six ambulances to the scene and Northumbria Police officers have closed the road while they investigate the collision.
The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old man, is currently helping police with their enquiries and Northumbria Police is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
A spokeswoman for the force added: “Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information which could assist police are asked to call 101, quoting 330 of 14/11/17.”
