Woman dead af­ter be­ing hit by a truck

A WOMAN who was knocked down by a lorry on Ty­ne­side has died.

The col­li­sion on Durham Road in­volv­ing a truck and pedes­trian hap­pened at just af­ter 11.15am yes­ter­day, a short dis­tance from its junc­tion with Belle Vue Bank, in Low Fell, Gateshead.

A by­stander was seen giv­ing the woman CPR be­fore the emer­gency ser­vices at­tended.

The North East Am­bu­lance Ser­vice sent six am­bu­lances to the scene and Northum­bria Po­lice of­fi­cers have closed the road while they in­ves­ti­gate the col­li­sion.

The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old man, is cur­rently help­ing po­lice with their enquiries and Northum­bria Po­lice is now ap­peal­ing for any wit­nesses to come for­ward.

A spokes­woman for the force added: “Enquiries are on­go­ing and any­one with any in­for­ma­tion which could as­sist po­lice are asked to call 101, quot­ing 330 of 14/11/17.”
