Woman dead after being hit by a truck

A WOMAN who was knocked down by a lorry on Tyneside has died.

The collision on Durham Road involving a truck and pedestrian happened at just after 11.15am yesterday, a short distance from its junction with Belle Vue Bank, in Low Fell, Gateshead.

A bystander was seen giving the woman CPR before the emergency services attended.

The North East Ambulance Service sent six ambulances to the scene and Northumbri­a Police officers have closed the road while they investigat­e the collision.

The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old man, is currently helping police with their enquiries and Northumbri­a Police is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A spokeswoma­n for the force added: “Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any informatio­n which could assist police are asked to call 101, quoting 330 of 14/11/17.”
